BEFORE I 'WENT TO SLEEP'

I had been collecting thoughts for my children. I would go on a run and think of a thousand little things I wanted them to hear from me; lessons I learned the hard way, advice I had gathered from experience or people much wiser than me. I would catch a sunset and hope to myself that they would chase them too one day. I wanted feathers and pretty rocks to be as exciting to them as they are to me, but more importantly, that they would learn to love as big as their hearts would allow. So now, if the day should come again that life shifts from under my feet before I get a chance to say a proper goodbye, take my words with you and don’t be scared. These words are for you...my treasure and my sunshine.

AFTER I WOKE UP...

and left the hospital, ninety-four days in, my little sister said, “You’re playing with house money now girl. Live it.” I shouldn’t be here today but because I am, I appreciate the gift back and want to make the most of it. I hope you will be inspired to do the same along with me.

Jade was born in Eastern KY and raised in Savannah, Georgia. She’s a proud wife and mother of two. In October of 2023 Jade was hospitalized for 93 days – a nearly life ending and certainly life altering experience that left her changed. You’re invited to read Jade’s poems, quotes and prose - written to her children in the aftermath of her illness - as part of her journey to heal her scarred heart.
